This is how Retirement centers work.   You know, the kind where you buy in with a large deposit.  Then in return they say they will never kick you out for lack of money.  Sounds great,  just what you are looking for.  /security. Of course during your stay they keep tapping your bank account for a large amount each month to pay into the fund for indigent residents at the
center in addition to everything else you get there. Medical, guests with you at meals and so on .  So if you are one of those people who live a long time what you thought was enough to keep you in retirement you find  you are running out of cash and need to take advantage of their promist to keep you there for the rest of your life. Inflation has ruined your retirement money.
This is how it worked at the Hearthstone an upscale  non-profit retirement center operated by the Lutheran church.  I managed the money for one the people who had bought in and she did just that.  She outlived her nest egg and was in a position where she had no way of paying her stay there.  It has been inflated away.  So when she became unable to pay the full expenses of her stay they immediately began procedure to get her on Medicaid. This was a shock to this sensitive lady because to get her on it she had to declare she was indigent.  That was a shock to her.  Independent all her life and now destitute.  In the meantime the Hearthstone got to use the money she and others paid into the fund  for the Churches benefit.  You the public paid for it. They did millions of dollars upgrading the Hearthstone instead of reducing the costs of the people who stayed there.  So that is how it works.  If you don't live long it works OK. But Die, Die, Die first please. Note that non-profits are the fanciest ones around.  Is that the way God works.?

Dementia steals your retirement.

Take a look at Bills war. His widow created a story of his time with the 39th FA in WW2. Find it at http://billswar.blogspot.com Copy and paste into address bar
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dementia steals what should be a period in your life of enjoyment.  What would be enjoyable time of sitting on the patio or having a cup of coffee with the one you have spent a life with.  But no, that is not to be if dementia is involved.  You don't want to turn care of your loved one over to someone else. You know her best and you know what she needs.  No one else knows as much.  Besides this is your way of getting that last bit of enjoyment of her company. What is left of her original self. You can go back in pictures to see how it was.  Like the time after church you had her walk the railroad track in her Sunday finery.  She was so good at making the very best of what she was,  Her knowledge of makeup, clothes, being a mother to her kids.  She was so good at it. To be the very best at it.  But dementia is stealing what should be your retirement  with her.  There is still something of herself and you are determined to get what you can.  It gives joy to be able to take care of her needs and enjoy what remains of her original personality.
