Dementia steals what should be a period in your life of enjoyment. What would be enjoyable time of sitting on the patio or having a cup of coffee with the one you have spent a life with. But no, that is not to be if dementia is involved. You don't want to turn care of your loved one over to someone else. You know her best and you know what she needs. No one else knows as much. Besides this is your way of getting that last bit of enjoyment of her company. What is left of her original self. You can go back in pictures to see how it was. Like the time after church you had her walk the railroad track in her Sunday finery. She was so good at making the very best of what she was, Her knowledge of makeup, clothes, being a mother to her kids. She was so good at it. To be the very best at it. But dementia is stealing what should be your retirement with her. There is still something of herself and you are determined to get what you can. It gives joy to be able to take care of her needs and enjoy what remains of her original personality.
