Saturday December 7, 2013 Visit Kay

The visit today was quite ordinary.  The bus didn't get me until late and I got there at 1:20.  That is almost an hour just spent getting there.  My scheduled pick is 12:30 but to keep in range they also allow a 30 minute window for emergency changes in pickups and deliveries.  This is a frequent happening. People call in unable to make a pickup sometime late. Other things also can cause the schedule to be off and cause me to be late to where I am going. Kay was in bed asleep but not a deep sleep. I eased myself down on the bed and she immediately opened her eyes and smiled so she was not sleeping soundly.  I asked her if she wanted a treat which she indicated she did. In all of my time there today I don't think she said a word.  Just nodded. She must have understood because when I asked her to get up she started to do it while I helped her.  She was already dressed.  We went to the hall and she immediately started opening the bag  I had brought out  which meant she also knew the treats were in that bag. This indicates of course that people in her condition can learn and the short term memory is not totally gone. By that time the time there was used up except for the last 30 minutes so we stayed on her bed until it was time to go. Actually not the full 30 minutes because it takes me about 5 to 10 minutes to get downstairs if I have to take her to another room on my way out.  I don't want to miss the shuttle.

George Marshall a dear friend and Kay
10:15 PM Saturday night.  Listening to Swing Years on KUOW radio playing WW2 music.  Brought on by Pearl Harbor day.  I was at her folks getting a free lunch I suppose.  Kay was still in the hospital recovering from giving berth to my little draft exemption Dianne.  Her folks were the grandest in-laws anyone could have. I was outside the house washing her dads car I think.  Because I was not inside and someone came out and told me Pearl Harbor had been attacked.  I had never heard of Pearl Harbor.  Of course Kay used to listen to these songs with me.
