A great job!

Kay was in her room and own bed when I got there about 10 minutes to 10.  That means a short visit if the shuttle is early or on time picking me up.  But it was a good visit.

It is difficult job these facilities have taking care of people with dementia.  This one is much superior to others I have heard of.  Remember that they are taking care of people who have become too difficult for family members to take care of.  So it is easy to complain when the people who are now doing the job do not do it like you  would like it done.  This is not to excuse poor job performance.  If the supervisors fall down on their job of overseeing  the workers then the treatment that patients get will suffer.  It is impossible in my opinion for a caregiver to work day after day after month after month and year after year without developing a distance from the people  in their care.  And if a supervisor falls down on their job of closely and constantlyy monitoring the caregivers doing their job the care given the patients will suffer.  Where Kay is I believe the management really wants to maintain a caring institution all the time.   The instructions the caregivers go by reflect this.  The patients living in an enviorment free of unpleasant odors should be kept constantly in mind.  This was allowed before I objected  to those conditions but it has now been fixed. I said nothing for a year thinking this was something that happens in places  like this.   The patients, if they did not have dementia, would not put up with it. But they can not do anything about it in their present state of mind.  It is mind boggling the change in living conditions since this place have implemented the new way of keeping the place so livable.  Now if it does not degenerate and go back to the old habits it will be a place that visitors can come to marvel at how different it is from other places.   That is how I felt about the change.  This is not going to happen if the supervisors get lax in overseeing the caregivers at how they keep the rules.  I have never been to other similar places without just expecting the smell to be bad.  If management would do this think of the selling point to prospective customers.  All it takes is just picking up the soiled  clothing and providing an exhaust fan that goes on now and then.  A great selling point in my opinion.
