Unpleasant experience today

I didn't get there to see Kay until about 2 pm because of the late pickup.  Coming back was fine.  when I got there she was in the activity room with most of the others on her floor listening to some program.  I took her for her truffle then after a short while went to her room.

The odor was worse than I had experienced it ever before.  I looked around to see if it was coming from one source but found nothing that could account for it.  Sometimes the restroom has some soiled panties but that was clear and no other waste basket had any in it.  I noticed that the toilet seat extension had some feces on the inside but I did not know if that little bit could cause the smell to be so bad throughout the entire 2 rooms.  I eventually called a caregiver to come and check her out.  A care giver who seemed experienced but I had never seen before.  Perhaps she was from a different floor.

Yesterday when trying to locate the little white haired lady I talked to a caregiver who seemed reluctant to tell me anything. Like everything was a secret.   Seemed a little odd to me that she would be reluctant to do that.  Which in effect was making the lady  be essentially in solitary confinement. Without outside contact.   Later when coming from the outside with Kay I stopped at the nurses station who freely helped me find her and expressed a willingness to let these people to have visitors.  No matter who the visitor was.  I guess the reluctant caregiver was just ignorant. Not surprising though.  You find out a lot by being there every day.  And the incident today with the smell I will look into.  In the past  I have felt there might always be a certain amount but and thought it had to be lived with.  But today it was just too much. No one, even those with dementia who are not aware their surroundings, should have to live with it. I try not to be a problem but where should I draw the line?  I think now that even though there was not a lot of feces in the toilet it probably was the cause of the smell.  It could have been fixed rather easily and should not have been there.  I think that indicates really how some of the caregivers think of the people in their care. Actions speak louder than words.

Tomorrow I use my bus pass and make a trip to Walmart for a couple items.  First time for this. One reason I was reluctant was because I will essentially blow the entire morning.  I wont do much on the video project. Went out with a couple friends from here and had some fish and chips across the street.  When I got the bill the lady said some sort of endearing word when she gave me the bill like some women do and I responded with OK Honey Bun. She said something I did not understand and grabbed the bill back and went to the bar where she did something on the billing computer I suppose and brought it back.  I rather suspect she gave me some sort of rake off for calling her Honey Bun.  Ok by me! This is where I got the double billing a few days ago.
