Interesting visit today. It's not every day you get a strip tease when not expecting. Well, not actually a strip tease but stay with me and I will explain. The shuttle was fairly prompt so I got there about 1 PM. I found her in bed but when I sat down on it she opened her eyes and smiled. Then grabbed my hand. I didn't think she seemed very athletic at the moment so decided to give her some truffles in bed where she was. I gave her a couple and then decided she could handle a walk. We started around the hall but when we got to out favorite spot it has become so well known that the residents have started sitting in the chairs. I went back to the hall window down the hall from her room a few feet and told her to wait until I went to the dining room and dragged a couple chairs from the dining room to sit on. I should mention that all furniture in the place not only just the usual spot has metal furniture. The dining room and community room unless it is overstuffed. Actually the window next to her room is better than the other place because it overlooks a major road and not jut an alley as our usual spot does. It used to have chairs there but they disappeared sometime back. So I have been going to our regular spot. I will ask for chairs to be put there permanently as it would be better view. While we were sitting there Just a couple feet away a woman came opened the door and looked down the hall as i she was looking for a caregiver. She looked a minute then turned around and started pulling her pants down. She had depends on so nothing was exposed. Then she went into her room. In a few seconds I saw a caregiver with a couple of the other patients and told her to come quick as I thought the lady needed some immediate help. The caregiver had to go to the other end of the hall and drop something off in the room there but came back quickly and went into the room. She was there awhile attending to the woman's needs then came out. She said something I don't remember what it was but I did ask if she did need the attention I figured she needed to which she assented.
Next we decided to take a walk around the halls and we shared my walker. That's a little awkward because I give her the full access and I sort of hang onto the side with two hands. Not a comfortable position but better for Kay. We really went for a fast walk about 3 times around the building then I began to get tired of the uncomfortable position I was in when walking so we went back to her room and laid on the bed until time to go. Actually a few minutes before time so I just took her to the Dining room where there was some activity being conducted by a caregiver to a packed room.
I went down stairs and sat at a table waiting for the shuttle to get there. I sat next to whom I knew was the cook from Cascade Vista. After a couple minutes he looked at me and asked if he didn't know me from the Vista to which if said yes. This cook has come to our table a number of times to talk to another man who wants special servings because of dietairy needs. He has no need to talk to me so I just sit there while he talks to the other guy. So I would be a familiar face in another place. I managed to talk to him about how Kay is losing weight and why. Also what the diet has on the other people there at Cascade Gardens. Dont know what good it will do but he may have some influence on what Kay eats. He has worked for Cascade for a number of years. At least I got to tell him what I thught of the diet and what effect it was having on the patients at Cascade Gardens.
All in all a fruitful trip today. But there is more. I am going to create a restricted blog dedicated to livng in an assisted living facility. What it is like type of people who live there, the type of people who work there. What goes on, the conflicts, etc. It will be limited access to only those who register. I want to do this so I can say what is really on my mind. I think on this kind of blog I can say things I cant say in a open blog. I haven't named it or created it but that will be started tonight I would suppose. This blog is now getting about 100 hits a day so it might be of interest to a number of people. Please contact me if you are interested.
I just got back from the med room where they got a reading of 99. I came back to my room and got a reading of 136 on my machine. They both can't be right. The tech people seem to have the idea that a quick draw is better. Instructions on every machine I have looked at requires an adequate supply of blood to read. If it is so quick the machine does not have enough blood then the test is inaccurate. For some reason these people cant seem to get this into their head. Look for my new blog and we will discuss this .and other interesting things going on in the Assisted Livng world.
