Kay's outing to Old Country Buffet

Do you have Glaucoma? Important things you may not know. Go here to find out what the doctor may not be telling you.
Kay seemed quite alert yesterday morning so I took her out for breakfast. When we came home to the apartment she commented that "I don't think I have been here before" Kind of a shock because we have lived here for over 6 years. I think she felt this way because she doesn't get out a lot and the entrance to the apartment isn't one of her regular experiences anymore. Still, it is somewhat unsettling to hear her say that. I keep alert for things that change in her.

Occasionally I ask her if she want so get dressed and go out for something but she doesn't feel good enough to get dressed. So she isn't getting out as much as she did. Dementia affects people differently. For instance Kay had two cousins that only lived a couple years after diagnoses. Kay has never been officially diagnosed but has had it for 6 or 7 years. I am inclined to think that by putting someone with dementia in a board and room warehouse they become subconsciously shut out of the life they knew and they shut down and die much faster than they would if they stay in their home environment. Kay, because she still is in the environment she has been in for the last 71 years beginning tomorrow. Pres. Regan lived for years. My sister Leoma lived for years. Put them in a facility shut away from their past and they might pine away and die much sooner than if they remain with their relatives and friends. A broken heart is real. I can see it in Kay.
