How interested in us are our children?

Take a look at Bills war. His widow created a story of his time with the 39th FA in WW2. Find it at http://billswar.blogspot.com Copy and paste into address bar

When you get to our age (88) you tend to find out how interested your kids really are in you.  Some tend to put considerable effort into finding an assisted living place for you to go whether you want go or not.  Some are willing to go along with what you want but some think only room and board is the way.  You don't really know because it takes no effort to call occasionally or visit you on holidays or birthdays and so on. Some of the kids think that keeping your mind active is the way for you to slow the regression into Dementia or Altzheimers.  You suspect this but as they might live a couple thousand miles away they don't have to spend any time with you because of the distance they live from you.  What activity of the mind happens will be because of your own efforts as you are the only one close enough to do anything about it.  Living alone can get somewhat boring so you tend to look around for something to make the mind  active. .  There is no real substitute for one on one visiting.  But due to distances involved visiting is much less frequent than desired.  This desirable condition is not done as much as it should be.  So you just do the best you can.  Watching old home movies helps.  If you detest TV that wont work.

So after some thought I came up with a solution that overcomes loneliness to a great extent.  With the internet there is no need to do without personal contact with the kids.  The only thing is that it needs their cooperation. As I said before how much time the kids are willing to take out of their busy schedule will depend on if it will work or not.  If everyone sets up a a web cam and uses it to call that will make personal contact with their parents. It also shows which one thinks enough of their parents to take a little time out of their busy schedule each week for that all important personal contact. Other cultures keep families together.  American culture puts them in a rest home and their responsibility is done. Contact with a web cam may be a good solution to this problem. We recognize that everyone has a busy schedule and this has to be worked into that schedule.  Stay tunes as I just installed a web cam.
