Medicine in an assisted living facility

 I have been meaning to post some information on how some of the "nurses"operate.  There is one that watches TV while getting the insulin shots ready to administer.  The thing is that the TV is behind the nurse.  So to watch it the nurse has to keep jerking his/her head to look over the shoulder.  The other day one resident got kidney failure because she got the wrong dosage of medicine.  She had just arrived and two days later she went to the hospital with kidney failure for two months. The medicine pills are put in little plastic bags with the patients name on it so it is really hard to make a mistake but they still do.   Like me, when they forgot to give me the antibiotics for something.  this is done by the med tech with six hours of training I understand.  I always look at the pills to see if the amount and color is right. The nurse also throws the test equipment into the box under the counter.  I know they are rugged but I take a dim view of just throwing the equipment into the box which has to be sorted out later I would suppose.  But about the woman whose kidneys were destroyed by an overdose.  This happened because the doctor did not recognize he was giving a lethal overdose, the nurse, the med tech didn't know enough about medicine to think that the dosage might kill the patient.  This was probably the same doctor who tried to force my b/g up to the level where my glucose level would create long term diabetic complications sooner than later.  Most of the people here have not a clue about medical matters.  I can't imagine how people can be so ignorant after living 60 or 70 years. Some don't even know how much  insulin is being injected.  For myself Kay and I raised 4 kids so have been to a doctor many times.  Include hospitals in the list.  So by osmosis we have learned something. But I am amazed about the ignorance of medical matters that exist here. Of course this does not set well with the "Nurses" here.  Because of this it was I that called the attention to the nurse that she had not given me my antibiotic. But these little "gods"  don't like anyone knowing anything about  anything going on.  Have a nice day.
